"From my heart to your plate."

When my Daddy (and namesake) left Athens, Alabama for Northern California in 1951, he didn’t leave everything behind.  Forrest Sr. brought along with him several things — his love of life, his love of family, love of his faith — and a deep and abiding love for the indescribably unique Southern soul food he’d learned to prepare and enjoy with love, passion and fire. All slow-cooked in a well-seasoned black cast iron skillet.

It was this food that all seven of we Murray brothers and sisters ate every Sunday after church with friends and family.  Food my Daddy and Momma knew in their bones, would open our hearts and feed our souls.  And it did.

This is why I am both so happy and so humbled to bring these Southern style recipes and his way of cooking to you here in the San Francisco Bay area — to gatherings both large and small — with Southern style.  Please feel free to give me a call and we can talk smoke, fire, meat, menu and the loads of passion that I can bring to your next special event.  I would just love that.

Be Blessed,

Southern Soul

I’m all about making people feel at home.  That’s who I am, what I know and what I do. Helping people feel really comfortable so they can enjoy the blessings of a genuinely well-prepared plate of food.*

Unless requested otherwise, we’re talking buffet style here. I supply the tables, tablecloths, paper plates, dinnerware, napkins (very important), BBQ sauce (why those napkins are so important) and crafting dishes.
